Curiosity Cat's Suburban Homestead

About this blog

I’ve wanted to raise chickens and learn to be more self-sufficient since we bought our first suburban home (on a quarter acre) about five years ago. Since then, I’ve learned that we’re not the only ones who, for whatever reason, live in the suburbs but dream of a homestead. We now are blessed to live on about an acre in an older neighborhood where I can play around with goats and ducks and bees and not worry too much about annoying the neighbors, and I want to share our “homesteading” adventures in hopes that others might feel encouraged to start their own little homesteading projects, wherever you may live.

Of course, the original purpose of this blog was simply to share photos and stuff about our daily life with extended family around the country, so although I would love and encourage a wider audience, please don’t be surprised if this blog tends to wander all over the place and, maybe, back again occasionally.

I think the coolest thing to keep in mind, if you’re one of those who dream of homesteading, is that no matter where you live you can make a start today. Whether it’s a tiny little vegetable plot, a tomato plant in a pot, or even a hive of bees on a balcony from your apartment (trust me, people do this!), you can start today in securing part of your own food supply. Eat healthy, be green, and post about your adventures here. I want to hear from you!

I’m lovin’ this info, Head family! I will try to read more of it. What’s da deal? You all plan on living off of the eggs, cheese, milk, honey, etc? I’d love to have a bottle of honey. Mr. Head knows that one of my favorite lunches is peanut butter and honey sammiches.

Good to see yall are doing well!

Hi Anthony! I’m flattered that you stopped by. Did you get my email? I would love to share some honey with you. You just have to come by and “pay” for it with a day of hard labor–you missed the extraction, so instead you can come help me build a second duck pen. Or how about installing a hay rack for the goats, and setting up a system for keeping large quantities of straw and hay up off the ground in the lean-to? :D

How the heck are you anyway?

    • curiositycat: Hi Tanya! Thanks for the comment! I am sending you an email to answer some of your questions but the short answer is: Yeah, our area's pretty thin on
